Remember, just like a butterfly, she too will spread her wings and fly some day.
Enjoy her caterpillar years.

Kaylee's birthday!

A week has passed since Kaylee's birthday! I have a funny video I wanted to put in this post, but I don't know if I'll ever get around to fixing it up in a timely manner, so I'm posting anyway!
A year ago.... so tiny!
Last Saturday, Kaylee had a little party in one of Moose Jaw's parks. Michelle, Jen H, and Diana and Elley were able to celebrate with us! It was a nice sunny day - maybe a little too sunny. We were worried about babies being sunburned. AND the park I tried to have the party at ended up being closed when we got there. Fiasco ensued. But we did get settled at another park and it was lovely! :)
(Yes I made Kaylee a birthday headband and tutu. It was fun and I will do it every year until she refuses to wear them!)

On Saturday night, some relatives came over for a poker night! I was playing poker with them only a few hours before my water broke last year and I went in to the hospital. I'd like to think it'll be a tradition to have a poker night on Sept 24th, but someday it'll fall on work/school nights and that will not work. Yes, I'm probably going to teach Kaylee poker. No, I will not encourage risky gambling. But yes, Kaylee can learn to take some risks and chances, can learn about numbers, games, strategy, and probability while playing poker!

September 25th was a bright and sunny day! I actually don't know if it was last year on the day she was born, I was in the hospital all day and didn't think to look out my window... all I could see was my beautiful baby girl. But I know the day I left the hospital was a beautiful sunny day. I'll never forget the view out my hospital window that day: the leaves were ablaze and falling from the trees and the sky was brilliant. Back to this year... I couldn't wait until evening for her to open presents so she got to open one in the morning!

In the past year, I had heard of 'Smash Cakes'... little cakes that babies celebrating their first birthdays get to smash. Not meant to be eaten by guests or shared. Just smashed. So I did this and it was so worth it! Of course, she put her feet in the cake first. (Not surprising, since lately she's been entertained by rubbing her food onto her feet and licking them off while sitting in her highchair at mealtime!). This is the thing I have a video of. I took over a hundred pics of this (and apparently you can hear each camera click in the video!). Someday this video will get edited, but in the meantime, here's some pics!

'No kitty, that's MY cake!'
After her post-cake bath, we went to Dairy Queen so she could have some of her favourite food - Ice Cream! We also ordered her other favourite food (Pizza!) and brought one home for supper - don't worry, she had broccoli for lunch! Then we had the cake I made for people to eat. (Ookpik is an Inuit word for baby owl or snow owl or something... I knew this last year!... just in case you wonder why it's on the cake.)

time on her birthday!

Then she got to open the rest of her presents. She'd had a pretty long period of time without nap by this point and she didn't even get all her presents that night. We saved two of them for the following two days after her birthday, because they were both big ones that would entertain her for at least a day!

'I now have my own little laptop... but...'

'...nothing's better than Grammy's laptop!'

Owl always love you!
On one hand, I'm sad that a year has already gone by - how did she go from completely helpless to standing on her own in just one year! But on the other hand.... there's so much to look forward to! I just need to remember to live in the moment and make time for all the fun activities I'm imagining! I'm really looking forward to the rest of our lives! <3 <3
