Messy Kid Bootcamp, Day 1

I am going to subject myself to a messy-kid-bootcamp this week. There are several things that I’ve been avoiding because the mess involved raises my blood pressure! I need to get over this because it’s stopping Kaylee from having some neat experiences and it’s only gonna get worse! I can't explain why these things stress me out so badly, but I'm going to have to deal with it and there's no time like the present!!

Every day this week I’m going to do something with Kaylee that is messy and generally makes me anxious. For example,
  • Eating from a spoon mostly on her own. She needs to learn how to do it, but it’s going to mean a lot of mess.
  • And drinking from a cup. We'll start with water.
  • And fingerpainting with edible paint (either condensed milk or pudding). Yay art!
  • And playing outside – I’m so worried she’s gonna eat a handful of dirt. But I want her to like the outdoors, and I’m sure she won’t be the only child to eat dirt!! I don’t remember doing it but I probably did.
Any more ideas for age-appropriate messy things?

Day 1: Chocolate
Grammy gave Kaylee some chocolate today. I let Kaylee have some once in a while, but I usually feed it to her. I don't let her feed it to herself because she holds it until it melts and then wipes it everywhere! This is stressful for me. This is what she did with a chocolate cookie a while ago. Today I just watched and let her do her thing. Of the 5 or so 'half-buttons' of chocolate she got, she only held one of them until it melted a bit, but she licked her own hand off pretty good afterward.
Conclusion: I hopefully don't need to worry so much about this one. She cleans up the mess herself.

  1. I ate dirt with a spoon when I was a kid and I turned out fine!! =)

I don't really have any idea for messy kid activities. Potato stamping with edible paint?
