Remember, just like a butterfly, she too will spread her wings and fly some day.
Enjoy her caterpillar years.

Weekend at the Grandparents'

Before all the pictures from the weekend, here's a few things to update on:

Rolling
Last Thursday (the day after the first roll) Kaylee rolled twice more! It was really exciting for me, even though I never actually saw her do it. I still haven't seen it happen, I just know that I put her on her tummy and the next time I look she's on her back. Over the weekend I set up my camera to video her while on her tummy, but of course she wouldn't roll then!  ;)

Books from afar
Kaylee has gotten two more books from other countries! Carly sent her a book in Chinese, and Sandi asked some friends in Peru to bring Kaylee a book in Spanish! Both books are beautifully and uniquely illustrated and I can't wait to read them to her in the different languages! I need to learn how to pronounce Chinese first. In the meantime, I'll give her English versions or made-up versions.  If you're going away sometime, please keep Kaylee in mind! I'd love to send along some money on your vacation for a book for Kaylee!

Sippy-cups and solids
Grammy read somewhere online to let Kaylee play with a sippy-cup to let her get used to them. Well Kaylee sure knows how they go! Right away she had the right part in her mouth. I haven't tried putting any liquid in it yet though, but when I do I'll start with water. That'll probably be a surprise to her!  Grammy also read that I can start giving her solids any time now. The Dr. Spock book specifically says to start her by the time 6 months comes around because she might not make a good transition after then. However, my doctor and the public health nurses are saying to wait until 6 months. Kaylee is now 5 months and a week or so, so I'm going to start getting ready for solids. I may not wait until 6 months... I'm too excited to see how it goes! I imagine it will be totally messy. I know I'm supposed to start on cereals... does anyone have any suggestions for other things I can try soon after cereals? What did your kids especially like for mushed up foods? I would like to start on veggies before fruits, so any especially tasty veggies for kids? I really need to finish reading my baby puree book. And maybe find a Baby Bullet? They look so cool!

Giggles
I gathered my movie clips from when Kaylee started to laugh and put another video online of it. She laughs more frequently now, especially when she's on the floor and I put my face really close to hers and 'Om-nom-nom' her face and tummy. It helps if I'm laughing too :)

[Update after initial post: Kaylee was having a lap-nap on Grammy and a re-run of Big Bang Theory was on TV. Penny sang Sheldon the Soft Kitty song and Kaylee recognized it! I've been singing it to her at bedtime... LOL :) ]

Aaaaaaand pictures!
'I'm not sure this is right...'
'I must be getting close!'
'This feels right....'
'Is this right, mum-mum?'
'Yeah... I got this.'

Kaylee's shirt from Auntie Trish
She's moved to the 6M+ pacifiers, and she's got 4 different colours! Yay for outfit co-ordination!

Grammy really liked this outfit! Pretty much anything
that makes Kaylee look like a country girl is good for Grammy!
Whoops... dropped the susie on the floor  :(
Not every moment is a happy one....
Waiting for Kaylee to roll over again.
It didn't happen.

Grandpa found Kaylee a bandana so she could be a baby biker chick.
'Help me, I fell over!'
'Am I cute, mum-mum?'

'I can sit up on my own! I only fall over sometimes!'
Nap time with Bo (short for Bovine), aka SuperCow.

  1. Look up baby-led weaning, it's really interesting! My friend's 5-month baby is already eating solid food (not purées!) I also planned on waiting until 6-7 months...but I'm way too excited to start! hehe, it's gonna be a long 2 months until I get to try feeding her something different for a change. I've seen people starting kids on sweet potatoes and avocados, and then bananas. I still haven't researched what I'm going to do personally.

That sippy cup idea is genius, I may have to go buy one next time I'm oot.

  2. Guess I also want to add that I really like the look of the baby bullet. I'm waiting for it to come down in price or come to the As Seen on TV stores here (but they say it's doing too well on TV for it to come to the store =( ) The $40 shipping is hurtful. Now you do get another one "free" apparently so I wouldn't mind splitting the bill or something, if it was like $60 or less... Blah! heh.
