Remember, just like a butterfly, she too will spread her wings and fly some day.
Enjoy her caterpillar years.

Kaylee's 1/2 birthday!

<3 Happy 6 months to Kaylee today! <3
She's doing awesomely and showing so much personality! So many smiles, increasingly more laughs and squeals, and a few complaints.... excellent front-to-back rolling skills but not so much vice-versa.... easily goes to sleep for naps in the day and then again at bedtime.... and she's totally a social butterfly!

6 month appointment
At her 6-mo checkup last week, Kaylee was 15lbs 11oz, and 25.6 inches long. The doctor said these were right at 50th percentile for her age, and he was happy with her development so far. I don't remember her head circumference, but it was somewhere in the 90th percentile. Next week she has her immunizations though, poor girl....

Solid Foods
So she'd started oatmeal at my last update, and she was just finishing her oatmeal trial when she had her 6-mo appointment. I told him what she had been eating, and he recommended meat next! I definitely thought that was later in the scheme of things, but he said that doctors have been recommending starting solids with meat because iron levels are dropping sooner than expected in many children's cases. This probably isn't the case with Kaylee since she's been getting iron-fortified formula for a while now, but I was excited to give it a try!

So the second food she tried (if you don't include the tiny bit of ice cream that Grammy insisted Kaylee try! She loved it, of course...) was pureed beef. That was humourous... she definitely didn't like that at first! I'm too lazy to upload pictures right now, but I'll put them up sometime. You could just see the thoughts go across her face: "Yum, I'm gonna get some oatmeal, I'm excited!"--opens mouth--"Mm...what the hell is this!?"--frowns and spits it out--"Are you nuts, mum-mum? Don't want!"  By the end of the 5 days on that she was doing better though.

Now she's trying arrowroot cookies. Her first two were straight up cookie, but since I've been putting 1/2 a cookie into a net thing that she can put in her mouth. She was breaking off pieces (even without teeth) and I was getting worried about her choking. Next up: butternut squash!

Jolly Jumper
Auntie Joni gave Kaylee a Jolly Jumper and does she EVER love it! She likes the give a little jump and then hold her feet up and just bounce in one place until she stops. Other times, she looks like a little paratrouper/moonwalker. She's starting to be less intrigued by it now (about 2 weeks later)... probably because I started helping her bounce more by holding her legs and bouncing her side to side and front to back... she can't quite do that on her own. She thinks that's great fun - huge grins when that's happening! I also started holding her legs and moving her like she's on a swing and she likes that too.

Another Friend :)
Kaylee got to spend some time with her second-cousin Josie last weekend at a family function. They were both very interested in each other - it was so cute! Josie knows how to wave hello and goodbye, and I hope Kaylee can learn that soon because it's SO CUTE when Josie does it!

I love watching Kaylee interact with other babies, and I hope she can visit with Claire, Ilia, and Josie again soon! Kaylee has some more second-cousins, Eli and Pressli, who are close to her age too, but right now I think they are a little to young to play with Kaylee... but soon! :)

Media
I have video of Kaylee in the jolly jumper, and some pics of her 'wtf beef?' reaction, but I haven't uploaded them to my computer yet. I'm looking forward to sharing them, but not to uploading them and making them upload-friendly, so I'm not gonna do it right now. Another day...
